Volutes A volute can be a strengthening aspect in the area between the neck and the angled headstock of your guitar. This area may be susceptible to damage in the event of a tip over. In using a volute, this region of your guitar might not be bulletproof, but it will be reinforced. Corey James Custom Guitars is proud to offer several volute options. The Standard volutes:
Critter Carves If the traditional volute approach isn't doing it for you, open your mind and allow me to give your guitar an additional piece of artwork that will add character into your instrument. Corey James leaping dolphin volute: The dolphin is carved into the wood with its back curved towards the neck, and while the dorsal fin extends into the neck, it is small enough to not get into your way while playing. If you look closely you may notice the right flipper below the left. ![]()
Corey James crawling salamander volute: The 'tail' of this critter serves as the functional volute. The body is an artful demonstration of what would otherwise be a flat area of the guitar. The toes are as narrow as 1/16". If that's not enough, check out the eyes. Don't get creeped out, it's carved so it won't be looking at you while you are playing!
More designs are being developed and I do take special requests. |
